Sunset Whitney tennis tour team does well at Arden Hills

SACRAMENTO _ The touring tennis team from Sunset Whitney Golf Club made a good showing in the Arden Hills Fall Tennis Championships, Arden Country Club and Spa, Oct. 29-30.Aiden Unarce, 12, was runner up in Boys 12 Singles. It was Unarce second United States Tennis Association sanctioned tournament.Before falling to the division's top seed, Unarce rallied from behind to upset No. 2 seed Peter Reynolds, 3-6, 6-1, 6-4 to earn a shot at the title. Unarce also rallied in his first match to defeat William Gracey, 6-3, 6-7, 6-4.Unarce is a resident of Rocklin.Unarce tennis coach Marsh Riggs said that first victory really increased Unarce's confidence. That led to his triumph in the second match, and led Riggs to comment on his protégé's bright future.Unarce's younger brother, Colin Unarce, was runner up in the Boys 8 Singles. After dropping the first set 6-1, Colin Unarce gave eventual champion Vincent Pogson a run before succumbing, 6-4.Patrick Young, a 10-year-old from Rocklin, took the Consolation Division of Boys 10 Singles. He defeated Grayson Cliff, 6-3, 6-2 for the consolation medal.Young reached the title match by downing 9-year-old Ethan Stanley, 5-7, 6-2, and 7-1 in a decisive third set, match-tiebreak. Riggs was quite impressed with Young's comeback performance. Riggs said Young has only been a member of his team for three months.Young lost his opening round match to Matthew Kaiser.
