One million words and counting

Stephanie Bosquez has read more than 1 million words in her lifetime. This may not seem like much of an accomplishment except that Bosquez is only 7 years old and those million words have been read since she began second grade.Bosquez is in Mr. Lou Ferguson's class at Placer Elementary School. According to Ferguson, a special computerized program called "Reading Counts" keeps track of the number of words and books each student reads throughout the year.Bosquez's mother, Susan, said her daughter has always loved books."We've been reading her three books each night since she was a baby," Susan said. Susan said Stephanie enjoys reading because it is an activity she can do on her own time whenever she prefers. Stephanie said she enjoys all types of books but prefers ones with cats or any other type of animal in the story."I also like books with color pictures in them," she said.Some of her favorites include "Trumpet of the Swan."
