Roseville police release 911 call in Hannah Rose case

Six minutes.That's how long Lorena Juceam said it would take her to get home in her black GMC Yukon as she talked to a 911 dispatcher."I'm really worried right now," she told the dispatcher, referring to her 15-month-old daughter, Hannah Rose.The audio file of Juceam's 911 call was released Wednesday by police to the media. The call is part of the case against Veronica Martinez Salcedo, 36, who was the child's caretaker at the time. Martinez Salcedo is being held without bail in the Placer County Jail on charges of second-degree murder and child abuse.Dispatcher Nina Shaull is heard on the tape asking Juceam if Martinez Salcedo said Hannah was breathing. "She, she ... well I just told her to hang up and call 911," Juceam said.Shaull asked that if she called, would Martinez Salcedo would answer."No, she only speaks Spanish," Juceam said.Paramedics were on their way out to the Juceams' house by the end of the call.Dee Dee Gunther, Roseville Police Department's public information officer, said the audio file being released to the media was edited to remove last names, addresses and phone numbers. In edited form, the file ran for about 50 seconds.Martinez Salcedo, who has remained in the Placer County Jail since her arrest last month, is facing a second-degree murder charge and a charge of child abuse in the death of Hannah.Roseville Police investigators said Martinez Salcedo was baby-sitting for the Juceam family May 11.Scott and Lorena Juceam were away from the home May 11, and when Lorena returned home, she discovered their daughter unresponsive and rushed her to Sutter Medical Center Roseville, police said.Hannah died from traumatic brain injuries consistent with shaken baby syndrome, according to a Roseville Police Department press release. Martinez Salcedo, who was booked under her married name, Martinez, had helped raise the Juceams' children for nearly one year before Hannah's death. Martinez Salcedo was arrested May 12 on charges of child abuse. The second-degree murder charge was added after the Juceams took Hannah off life support on May 13.Martinez Salcedo was not granted bail, as she has been accused of entering the country illegally.
