Database lists registered sex offenders

According to a new state Web site, 30 registered sex offenders live within Rocklin city limits.Who they are, what offenses they committed, and on which streets they live - depending if such disclosure was required by case - can be viewed at www.meganslaw.ca.gov.Other information provided on the site includes name, aliases, age, gender, race, physical description and a photograph if available from the local law enforcement agencies."It really scared my wife when she went and looked at it a few days ago," said Chester Montgomery of Lincoln. "I didn't look because I don't really want to know."Along with the 30 individuals listed on the site from Rocklin, 84 are listed in Roseville, 86 in Auburn, 27 in Lincoln, 14 in Loomis and five from Granite Bay.Another resident Terry Krentz has a more proactive viewpoint."They should all be incarcerated and castrated," he said. "Why are we so lenient? I say beware of your neighbors."Criminal convictions that required the individual to register as a sex offender are available as well, as are the county and zip code where the individual last registered.Home addresses are provided for about 33,500 of California's most serious sex offenders, a group that includes those convicted of committing a lewd act upon a child under the age of 14, or a sex crime that includes the element of force or fear.Registered Sex Offenders in Placer CountyAuburn 86 Roseville 84Rocklin 30Lincoln 27 Loomis 14Granite Bay 5*Information gathered from www.meganslaw.ca.govInformation on another 22,000 offenders is not listed on the site, but is known to law enforcement personnel.Prior to the information being online individuals had to go to their local police station to view listings. But the information is not always accurate.Lincoln Police Lt. Brian Vizzusi stated one individual listed as living in Lincoln is deceased and another is currently in prison. From his previous experience with the Rocklin police department, Vizzusi feels the number of individuals listed on the site is usually higher than what turns out to be correct.Registered offenders must go to the local police department within five working days of their birthdays to either confirm their current location, or provide their new address if they have moved.If the offender is required to register and does not, the failure could result in a felony or misdemeanor, said Bianca Ruiz, crime analyst for Roseville Police.The Web site states that many of the registered offenders are currently in violation of the registration requirements.
