Jackson would gladly play for Kings (ransom)

Ask former Sacramento Kings guard Bobby Jackson about his golf game and he'll tell you the truth."It's a game. Sometimes it's good, sometimes it's bad," he said Friday between bites of a sandwich at the Timber Creek Golf Course at the Sun City Roseville complex.Jackson was there to participate in the William Jessup Charity Golf Tournament for the second year in a row.Asked later about his basketball future - and, specifically, if he'd like to become a member of the Kings again - and the 33-year-old NBA free agent again pulled no punches."This is my first option, to be honest," said Jackson, who played this season with the Memphis Grizzlies after spending the previous five seasons in Sacramento."It would be nice to come back. They're probably one of my top two or three options. But it's all about the money, whoever is willing to pay me what I'm worth."In the past, Jackson's worth to Sacramento was hard to measure in dollars. One of the most popular players of the recent Kings era, the 6-foot-1-inch Jackson was also arguably the Kings' most fearless man during their rise from NBA also-ran status to league prominence.But after playing only 75 games in two seasons because of various injuries, Jackson was traded to Memphis along with Greg Ostertag for Bonzi Wells. With the Grizzlies he started 15 of the 71 games he played in and averaged 11.4 points, 3.1 rebounds and 2.7 assists per game.Of his season in Memphis, Jackson said, "It was OK, but it didn't go the way I wanted it to go, getting knocked out of the first round of the playoffs. But I still had fun."This past season, Jackson got to work with new Kings head coach Eric Musselman up close and personal, as Musselman was a Grizzlies assistant.What are his thoughts about the Kings' hire?"I think it's a good fit," he said. "He's a young guy who is energetic and has a knack for the game. He's very emotional and has an up-tempo type of game."Jackson spoke with Kings owners Joe and Gavin Maloof at a recent Monarchs game, but said they conversed in general terms, never broaching the subject of a return to the team."I know they don't have a lot of (salary) cap room," he said.In the meantime Jackson, who maintains a home in Granite Bay, lists nine other franchises as possible destinations, with West Coast teams such as Golden State and the Los Angeles Lakers being among his favorites.
