Funeral Notices

The Lord called Donald Dean Diekmann home on September 20, 2006, in Roseville Calif. Don was born April 14, 1934, to Henry and Blanche Diekmann in the area Gregory, S.D. In 1955 Don joined the military service. His tour of duties included Arkansas, Germany and the Boston area where he received his honorable discharge. After his military service he returned to Gregory, S.D. where he continued helping his folks with the ranch and farm work. On a grain hauling delivery to the Dallas elevator he met Dorothy Oliver, who later become his loving and devoted wife. Don and Dorothy were married June 28,1959. They then traveled to Gardenia, Calif. where his Uncle Walt taught him the machinist trade. Don's career continued as a machinist until he retired in 1995. God blessed Don and Dorothy with two daughters. On March 28, 1962, Shelli was born. Shelli married Steve Shortt and they have two daughters; Jessica 14 and Jennifer 12. Their second daughter Sheri was born September 26, 1965 and is married to Jeff Dornbush, they have three children; Emmalee 14, Karlee, nine, and Wyatt, seven. Don was baptized on March 20, 1951 and a life long member of the Congregational Church. As we all know Don loved John Deere tractors, of which he has many small and large. If there was a tractor involved Don would be there! As a husband, dad, grandpa, brother, and uncle he enjoyed his family. Grandpa Don was well known for attending many activities during which he acquired many friendships. Grandpa was always there to cheer his grand kids on. Don will be missed by his devoted wife Dorothy and his daughters Shelli and Sheri; his brother Bob and wife Cindi; sisters Delores and husband Don, Phyllis, Dorothy and Donna. Many other relatives, friends and neighbors enjoyed knowing Don. Preceding Don in death are his mother and father and a brother and sister.
