New library at Twelve Bridges gets preview

The Friends of the Lincoln Library hosted a gala preview reception at Lincoln Public Library at Twelve Bridges, which is scheduled to open Oct. 20. The fundraiser on Oct. 3 was attended by approximately 250 people, said library director Darla Wegener."It was very successful," Wegener said. "The Lincoln High School band performed, which was very popular. People sat and listened almost all evening."The costs for the new library have been divided equally between the three parties involved - the city of Lincoln, Sierra College and the Western Placer Unified School District. Representatives from Sierra College, the school district and the city were on hand.While library staff still is busy shelving books and arranging furniture, some books were set up for display and some of the furniture in the children's area was already set up.According to Shirley Russell of Friends of the Library, the fundraiser netted approximately $4,000, all of which will be encumbered for the new library to fill unanticipated needs.Russell said the money will not go toward purchasing more art, as the Friends group already has donated $7,000 for art.She added that at the grand opening on Oct. 20, Friends of the Library will be offering box lunches and other edible goods for sale and that any money raised will go to the library general fund.
