Laura Hayes gets first AAS victory

Golden State Racing's Laura Hayes in her Peoplefinders.com/No. 22 Late Model, won the fifty-lap Main Event at The All American Speedway on Saturday. Earlier in the day in qualifying, yet another of All American Speedway's talented female drivers GSR's Kristin Bumbera (00), topped the speed charts with a Fast Time of 13.773/ 87.126 mph, second was Beau DeBard (18) 13.840, third John Moore (27) 13.876 and fourth Laura Hayes (22) 13.915 Those four drivers were matched up in the Toyota TRD Late Model Trophy Dash where Hayes defeated Moore, DeBard, and Bumbera respectively.In the feature, Orangevale's Gary Glenn (50) started from the pole with an inversion of seven. Pennsylvania's Lindsay Barton (32) started on the outside of Row 1. Glenn got off to a great start and looked as though he would have the car to beat. Cameron Park's Jason Romero (8) got to second on the first lap and battled with Granite Bay's John Moore until succumbing to Moore on lap 12. Moore then battled with the leader Glenn, finally passing for the lead on lap 25, only to relinquish it back to Glenn on lap 28. Hayes, who started fourth, used patience and got to third on lap 29. Romero battled tough and retook the second spot on the same lap. Hayes got by Romero for second on lap 38 as Moore fell to third.Just when it looked as if Glenn might drive away with the win, an untimely fire from under his car brought out the red flag on lap 41. A problem with the breather cap had oil leaking onto his headers and the Safety Crew was called in to investigate. The caution sent Glenn behind the wall for the night and gave the lead to Hayes with only eight laps remaining.Hayes had her teammate Moore just behind her in second place with laps winding down. In what may have been the most important restart of her career, Hayes out-dueled Moore to maintain the lead and brought home the victory, her first main-event win of the season. Moore would settle for second, his tenth Top-Five of the season. That finish would move him ahead of Glenn and to the top of The All American Speedway points chase. Jason Romero ran a solid race and would cross third in a borrowed G. Glenn Plastering car. Kristin Bumbera would survive an early race incident and come all the way through the field again to finish fourth. Winters had won nine consecutive races at AAS until he was bettered by Field on this night. Rich Lindgren (#27) started from the pole and led the first thirty-one laps. Field started sixth while Winters started third. Field moved up quickly through the field. By Lap 8, he was third with Winters second. Field made the pass on Winters for second on Lap 15 and then finally caught Lindgren on Lap 32. With 7 laps to go, Winters got by Lindgren for second on Lap 33 and the two-man race was on to the stripe. In the end, Field held off Winters for his first victory of the season. Winters would have to settle for second on this night, with Lindgren third.
