Armando E. Alonso

Armando E. Alonso died June 17, 2005 at the age of 73. He served in the Army and was a 30-year Livermore resident. Armando was born March 18, 1932 in Mexico City, Mexico. In 1950 he came here from Mexico and for three years worked hard to become a United States citizen. In 1953 he enlisted in the U.S. Army to proudly serve his new country. He was honorably discharged in 1961.In 1957, he married his love Paula, and in 1961 they moved and lived in Oakland for 10 years with all of his six children. He was employed with Mexicana Airlines.In 1971 he moved to Livermore, CA, where he was employed by Lawrence Livermore National Laboratory and the Pleasanton Unified School District as head of the maintenance department and retired in 1986.Mr. Alonso loved working with his hands so much that he started his own business as a handyman/remodeler, to help seniors out. He was a very-hard working man, the family said. He also loved gardening, cooking and spending time with his grandchildren. He was a member of St. Michael's Church.In 2001 he settled in Auburn, CA and worked and lived his last 4 years there.He is survived by his wife Paula Alonso of Auburn; Sarah Murphy of Colfax, Martin Alonso, Michael and Stacey Alonso of Livermore, Lupi Alonso of Benicia, and Julia and Shawn Quinlan of Livermore; seven grandchildren; two great- grandchildren; and many family relatives in California and Mexico.Services to be held at at 3 PM Friday, July 8, 2005 at St. Michael's Church, 458 Maple St., Livermore. Burial will be at the New Dixon National Cemetery.
